I suspect that it’s from being exposed to day/sun light as it’s just the top portion of the folded duvet. I believe that the fading is on the top of the duvet and it’s on one side. Flipping the duvet cover over or placing the lighter area closest to a wall would solve the problem. It’s really not a large area, and I’ve checked to ensure that the fading is only in the one area.
