About a day after I had paid the seller, the seller notified me that the deal was off because shipping costs had come in unexpectedly high. After going through the messages that had been sent to eBay I had to correct their impression that I, not the seller, had cancelled the deal. But, I did in fact receive a full refund, shortly afterwards, so things ended well.
